For a child who lives with pain, the magic of childhood is lost to depression, isolation, fear and hopelessness. It is estimated that 20% of the total pediatric population suffer persistent pain conditions.
Research indicates that the most common persistent pain conditions in children are headaches, back pain, abdominal pain, chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS), fibromyalgia, and persistent musculoskeletal pain of unknown causes.
Researchers previously thought that children, especially younger children, did not “feel” pain the same way that adults did. We now know that children do, in fact, “feel” pain in much the same way as adults, but their responses to pain may be drastically different. An adult with back pain may determine that medication, time off from work, and rest are appropriate measures for dealing with pain. A child, however, may emotionally withdraw, act lethargic, and avoid “normal” activities. This may impact the child’s schoolwork, recreational activities, and may even disrupt family dynamics.
At Pain Solutions, Inc., we understand these differences. Our treatments for children with pain are effective, tolerable, non-threatening, and function-based. We know that kids respond well to movement, activities, and goals. We seek solutions that offer relief while still allowing kids to be KIDS!
